Kanazawa University COI-NEXT (Sustainable Bioplastics Innovation Hub) (*1), led by Professor Takahashi Kenji from the Department of Life Science and Technology, Institute of Science and Engineering, Kanazawa University, is collaborating with the exhibit of "Two Cranes," a circular manufacturing system centered on 3D printing, at the "Factory Area" of the Japan Pavilion at the 2025 World Expo, Japan (Osaka, Kansai Expo), a co-creation team led by the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI) Digital Manufacturing and Design Research Center for Emergent Circularity (Director: Prof. Tanaka Hiroya, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies), to provide biomass plastic material for the seats of some of the stools.
This stool is displayed in the "C2 display shelf " in the factory area.
【Exhibits]
“Soukaku (Two Cranes)" will be on permanent display in the "Factory Area" of the Japan Pavilion at the 2025 Japan International Expo, where two robot-arm 3D printers will work together like "cranes" in an effort to realize a recycling-oriented society using low environmental impact 3D printing technology. Taking advantage of its long-cultivated research on biomass plastics, Kanazawa University provided biomass plastic as part of the material for the 3D printed stool used in this exhibition.
By using biomass plastic instead of petroleum-based plastic, this stool will contribute to the reduction of environmental impact and the realization of a recycling-oriented society.
Kanazawa University will communicate the characteristics of biomass plastic materials and their contribution to a recycling-oriented society to the world, through this exhibition.

*1:COI-NEXT, Kanazawa University (Sustainable Bioplastics Innovation Hub)
COI-NEXT is a program supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), a national research and development agency. This program promotes research and development through collaboration between industry, academia, and government to realize the society of the future. Specifically, COI-NEXT, Kanazawa University, initiative aims to create a resource-circulating society by using renewable polysaccharide plant-based plastics. The project focuses on implementing sustainable technologies in society to improve the environment.
